THE BRANCA USA TIMES
Branca USA, a vibrant member of Branca International, has been bringing beloved spirits like Fernet-Branca and Antica Formula vermouth to the US market, with a touch of New York City flair, since our inception in 2019. Our roots trace back to the Italian craftsmanship of Fratelli Branca, a herbalist who initially began creating fine spirits in 1845.
As part of a global family alongside Fratelli Branca Distillerie Srl in Italy and Fratelli Branca Destilerias SA in Argentina, we're committed to transforming premium ingredients sourced from around the globe into authentic products made in Milan, Italy. Guided by the ethos of "Novare Serbando" – which translates to “Preserve and Innovate”, our approach prioritizes preserving tradition whilst looking to the future. We blend timeless craftsmanship with forward-thinking approaches to meet the evolving tastes of our customers. 1845
Bernardino Branca invents Fernet-Branca.
Fernet-Branca's journey began in 1845 when Bernardino Branca created its unique and secret recipe using botanicals from around the world. The company, Fratelli Branca Distillerie, was founded, and a production factory in Milan followed, employing over 300 workers.
1900
Leopoldo Metlicovitz designs the emblematic logo, paving the way for global branding.
This icon, representing both tradition and forward-thinking, revolutionized marketing, appearing worldwide in bars, restaurants, and transit hubs. Upon closer observation, the eagle has one eye cast downward and the other looking forward, embodying Branca's values of innovation and preservation.
1930
Branca Goes International.
International expansion became essential due to increased taxes on alcohol imports. Factories in Milan, France, Germany, and Buenos Aires are established. Branca’s process of international expansion is completed in 1932 with the creation of S.A Fratelli Branca Distillerie of Chiasso, and of Fratelli Branca & Co. Inc. in the United States.
1932
Fratelli Branca & Co. Inc. is founded in the United States.
A New York plant opened at 131 Hudson Street and, during prohibition, focused on production of a medicinal version of Fernet-Branca that was registered with the FDA for over-the-counter sales in pharmacies.
1985
Branca acquires Carpano, including the renowned Cafè Borghetti, Punt e Mes, and Antica Formula.
2005
Fernet-Branca rises as the Bartender's Handshake.
The San Francisco bartending community adopted Fernet-Branca as their go-to shift drink, which soon became a national phenomenon. A shot of Fernet-Branca evolved into a popular 'bartender's handshake,' a complimentary pour exchanged among bartenders or as a tradition when passing on a shift.
2019
Branca USA is established.
Headquarters open at 570 Lexington, in the historic Art Deco General Electric Building in Manhattan.
TODAY
While relatively young compared to its parent company in Milan, Branca USA has achieved remarkable milestones since its establishment, emerging as the largest supplier of Amaro and premium vermouth in the US market. Inspired by our legacy, we remain committed to forging ahead into a prosperous future in the United States.
